Introduction to Mentorship

Becoming a mentor is a great privilege. You finally have an opportunity to share what you know with someone what wants to know what you know… you know… ? You get the opportunity to allow another person to see the hope within themselves.

Coach John Wooden once said: Big things are only accomplished through the perfection of minor things. Someone also said: it is the small things that make the big difference!

I believe that mentoring often involves telling people what they need to hear, rather than what they want to hear. When you are able to be humbly honest with someone about a situation with which you have personal experience, you are offering the most valuable gift of all.

And a mentor provides this gift by listening, communicating, asking questions, provided opportunities to learn, guiding, giving feedback and checking the progress of the process.

All this is what you will learn in the mentoring course. You will learn

· What characteristics a good mentor must hone and develop;

· What roles mentors play;

· What mentors can an cannot do, must and must not do, should and should not do – you will be mentored in all of this!

You will learn how to set up mentorship programmes for your organisation or company.

You will also learn how to set up a mentoring relationship with a mentee. This involves setting up structures to measure the success of your programmes and plans.

You will learn how you as a mentor (The expert) can provide valuable input into the professional life of a novice (the mentee). Your input as a mentor can be instrumental in determining where the mentee will end up one day. And here you will learn how to

· Communicate well

· Listen well

· Ask good questions

· Have interesting conversations

· Give constructive feedback

· Deal with difficult situations

… all while doing something that you could be proud of – sharing what you learned in the university of life.

This course will guide you through the phases in the mentoring cycle, from where you decide to be a mentor, to finding the right mentee, to setting up the paperwork, deciding on goals, getting on with the learning and then evaluating the success at the end of it all.

This is a very exciting course! It will put you way ahead of most people who want to become a good mentor.

An added benefit of this course is that it is registered and approved by COMENSA, short for Coaches and Mentors in South Africa. Professional alliance is very important in the service industry. Not only is the course COMENSA approved, it also gives you the opportunity to register yourself as a member of COMENSA and make use of the many other benefits that they offer to Life Coaches and Mentors all over the world.

If you are serious about making a difference in the lives of other people, enrol now! There is no better time than now.

Always remember this:

“In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The ill-trained will find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists,”
